La Zona (The Zone): Youth Ministry has been Launched. Sept-2009.
Our youth ministry: La Zona (The Zone); began with the following vision: "We are youth that love God and are motivated to grow spiritually and reach our friends for Christ. To accomplish this we utilize music, biblical instruction and recreational activities to develop friendships." La Zona meets every Saturday at 4:00 PM in our church offices and since they started their meetings have had an average of 30 youth in attendance. At Iglesia Gran Comisión (IGC), we are aware of the need that young adults and college students have, and as a result of that need, we have developed a new ministry: La Red (The Net). The idea of La Red is to connect students with Jesus, with IGC, and with each other. Our vision is to begin discipleship groups on all major campuses in the San Salvador area. On January 11th, 2009, we began a new follow-up plan: "Conectados" (Connected). This plan includes a series of activities, which we began in an effort to attend to our visitors better. At the end of our Sunday service, we invite them to a ten minute meeting which has three purposes: a) to share the gospel with them, b) to collect their information for future follow-up c) to give them a CD which contains the gospel and a study on eternal security given by the director of GCLA, Nelson Guerra. Iglesia Gran Comisións' group of university students and young adults: La Red (The Net), together with students from La Evangelica, a local university, and Pastors Victor Turcios and Ivo Américo, visited one of the communities affected by Hurricane Ida. After evaluating the needs of the people, we invited them to the church in La Libertad where they would receive food and clothing. Gracia Abundante (Abundant Grace), Iglesia Gran Comisión's social help ministry, was designed to meet two main objectives: 1. Help members of our church who are in need. 2. Help people who live in poor communities. To reach these objectives, members of our church have committed to donating clothes, food, and school supplies in order to give them to those who need it most. Baptisms at our church in August and September 2009
A. On Saturday the 15th of August of this year, 10 members of our church were baptized. The baptisms were held in a pool at La Escuela Cristiana Américana (The Christian American School). About 45 members of the church came to praise God, pray, and witness the baptisms of these new Christ followers. B. The second week in September of this year, members from one of our small groups, Carla, Inri and Alba, were baptized in the Recreation Center located in Telecom on Conchalio beach in La Libertad.
